RCKC Construction Update for the Week of 7-15-2024

In an effort to keep local drivers informed of the latest traffic and road maintenance operations by the Road Commission, we have provided the following update for the week of July 15, 2024.  For further information call 269-381-3171 or visit RCKC website www.kalamazoocountyroads.com.

“This information is made available to assist motorists in planning for construction delays,” Joanna Johnson, Managing Director of the Road Commission said. “Motorists are reminded to be alert, slow down, stay informed, and be cautious when approaching a work zone. Remember, these projects signify progress in improving our infrastructure!”

Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects, road closures and timing can change from day to day, depending upon a number of factors, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather conditions, emergency situations, etc.

 

Alamo Township

Road: AB Avenue - 1st Street to 7,900' east of 1st Street
Current Status: Tree removal and chip seal to follow.
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes pulverize, double chip seal
Start Date: June 25, 2024
End Date: August 31, 2024

 

Road: D Avenue - 6th Street to Ravine Road
Current Status: Tree removal and trimming complete. Road work to begin 8/12.
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes tree removal and trimming, drainage improvements, asphalt paving, and restoration.

End Date: September 30, 2024

Charleston Township

Road: Mercury Drive - MN Avenue to East Michigan Avenue
Current Status: Mainline paving and driveway adjustments the week of 7/15. At this time, MN Avenue will be closed from 44th Street to Mercury Drive.
Detour: MN Avenue and Mercury Drive will be closed to through traffic during the project. The detour route is East Michigan Avenue and 40th Street.
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling and resurfacing and some curb and gutter installation.
Start Date: May 28, 2024
End Date: August 2, 2024

 

Road: MN Avenue - 44th Street to Mercury Drive
Current Status: Mainline paving and driveway adjustments the week of 7/15. At this time, MN Avenue will be closed from 44th Street to Mercury Drive.
Detour: MN Avenue and Mercury Drive will be closed to through traffic during the project. The detour route is East Michigan Avenue and 40th Street.
Project Information: This project includes widening for a turn lane at 44th Street, milling and paving, and realignment of the intersection of MN Avenue at Mercury Drive.

Road: ML Avenue - Sprinkle Road to 26th Street
Current Status: Restoration to follow. 
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling, asphalt paving, drainage
improvements, curb & gutter replacement, and restoration.
Start Date: May 28, 2024
End Date: July 31, 2024

Kalamazoo Township

Road: Davis-Omstead Drain - Olmstead Road to Olmstead Road
Current Status: Culvert removal and bedding preparation continuing week of 7/15. 
Detour: Brookfield Avenue and Springfield Avenue will be closed at alternate times during the project. The detour route is around the block on either Greenfield Avenue or Market Street.
Project Information: This project includes culvert replacement at two road crossings in addition to stream bank restoration.
Start Date: April 1, 2024
End Date: October 25, 2024

 

Road: Squires Drive - Drake Road to Ravine Road
Current Status: Restoration, signing, and paving week of 7/15.  The intersection will be closed and a detour route will be posted. 

Safety of all road users is paramount to our delivery of services. Based on resident feedback this week, we have decided to limit access to roads in and around the area of the West Haven Plat. We understand there are mixed opinions on this matter, as these concerns were also shared by residents at the informational meeting.
 
Please be assured that the decision to implement road closures is not taken lightly. Construction work is dynamic, and we must pivot as needed to address various traffic-related issues. We appreciate your patience as we continue to monitor and adjust our plans accordingly.
 
Emergency response teams are aware of the closures. If you have any information on who is removing/moving the barricades, please contact the County Sheriff at 269-488-8911.

Detour: Squires Drive/H Avenue will be closed. The detour route is 10th Street, West Main, Nichols and Ravine Road. Drake Road will be closed to through traffic. The detour is Grand Prairie, Nichols, and Ravine Road. 
Project Information: This project includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Drake Road at Squires Drive. Squires Drive will also be reconstructed with shoulder widening and drainage improvements.

Road:  Douglas Avenue - City of Kalamazoo Limits to Barney Road/Mosel Avenue
Current Status: Restoration, concrete, and paving is anticipated for the week of 7/15. The road will be closed between Mosel Ave and US131 BL.
Project Information: This project includes milling and resurfacing, storm sewer improvements, and curb and gutter replacement.

End Date: August 30, 2024

Road: 9th Street - Stadium Drive to KL Avenue
Current Status: Roadside restoration, pavement markings, and structure adjustments for the week of 7/15.
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling, asphalt paving, manhole adjustments, tree trimming, and restoratiion. 
Start Date: April 15, 2024
End Date: August 10, 2024

 

Road: Stadium Drive - 8th Street to 9th Street
Current Status: Curb removals, curb replacement, lowering of manholes, and paving for the week of 7/15.
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling, asphalt paving, manhole adjustments, tree trimming, and restoration.

Project Information: This project includes roadway crushing, shaping, resurfacing, shoulder widening, and drainage improvements.
