In an effort to keep local drivers informed of the latest traffic and road maintenance operations by the Road Commission, we have provided the following update for the week of May 13, 2024.  For further information call 269-381-3171 or visit RCKC website www.kalamazoocountyroads.com.

“This information is made available to assist motorists in planning for construction delays,” Joanna Johnson, Managing Director of the Road Commission said. “Motorists are reminded to be alert, slow down, stay informed, and be cautious when approaching a work zone. Remember, these projects signify progress in improving our infrastructure!”

Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects, road closures and timing can change from day to day, depending upon a number of factors, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather conditions, emergency situations, etc.

Alamo Township

Road: D Avenue - 6th Street to Ravine Road
Current Status: Tree removal and trimming complete. Road work to begin 8/12.
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes tree removal and trimming, drainage improvements, asphalt paving, and restoration. 
Start Date: April 8, 2024
End Date: September 30, 2024

Climax Township

Road: 40th Street - R Avenue to Q Avenue
Current Status: Adding gravel and grading beginning 5/10 and continuing week of 5/13.
Detour: None
Project Information: New reconstruct, shoulder and drainage improvements, tree removal, hot mix asphalt (HMA) surface.
Start Date: April 8, 2024
End Date: August 30, 2024

Kalamazoo Township

Road: Alecia Avenue - Christine Street to Westnedge Avenue, Christing Street - Alecia Avenue to Beth Avenue, Beth Avenue - Chloe Street to Christine Stret, Chloe Street - 127' west of Beth Avenue to Beth Avenue
Current Status: Construction will start week of 5/13 lowering structures. 
Detour: Traffic will be maintained for this project using traffic regulators.
Project Information: This project includes lowering structures, milling and HMA paving.
Start Date: May 13, 2024
End Date: July 31, 2024

 

Road: Davis-Omstead Drain - Olmstead Road to Olmstead Road
Current Status: Project will resume in 7/8. 
Detour: Brookfield Avenue and Springfield Avenue will be closed at alternate times during the project. The detour route is around the block on either Greenfield Avenue or Market Street.
Project Information: This project includes culvert replacement at two road crossings in addition to stream bank restoration.
Start Date: April 1, 2024
End Date: October 25, 2024

 

Road: Squires Drive - Drake Road to Ravine Road
Current Status: Continue working on restoration week of 5/13. Then work will be expected to resume in June. The contractor will not be onsite however some utility relocation may occur. 
Detour: Squires Drive will be closed to through traffic during the project. The detour route is Ravine Road to Drake Road.
Project Information: This project includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Drake Road at Squires Drive. Squires Drive will also be reconstructed with shoulder widening and drainage improvements.
Start Date: March 1, 2024
End Date: August 9, 2024

 

Road:  Douglas Avenue - City of Kalamazoo Limits to Barney Road/Mosel Avenue
Current Status: For week of 5/13 storm sewer installation continuing and the road will remain closed between City of Kalamazoo Limits and US-131 BL. 
Project Information: This project includes milling and resurfacing, storm sewer improvements, and curb and gutter replacement.
Start Date: April 26, 2024
End Date: August 30, 2024

Road: 9th Street - Stadium Drive to KL Avenue
Current Status: Tree removal and clearing complete. Road work to being 6/17.
Detour: None
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling, asphalt paving, manhole adjustments, tree trimming, and restoratiion. 
Start Date: April 15, 2024
End Date: August 10, 2024

 

Road: Stadium Drive - 8th Street to 9th Street
Current Status: Tree removal and clearing complete. Road work to begin 6/17.
Project Information: This project includes asphalt milling, asphalt paving, manhole adjustments, tree trimming, and restoration.
Start Date: April 15, 2024
End Date: August 10, 2024

Road: Barony Pointe – Parkstone Terrace to Q Avenue, Wyndwood Pointe – 541’ west of Barony Pointe to Barony Pointe, Thornwood Pointe – 351’ west of Barony Pointe to Barony Pointe, Grapevine Circle – Parkstone Terrace to Parkstone Terrace, Parkstone Terrace - Barony Pointe to Bainridge Drive, Tawney Pointe – 347’ south of Parkstone Terrace to Parkstone Terrace, Bainridge Drive – Barony Pointe to 6th Street, Brandon Circle – Bainridge Drive to Barony Pointe
Current Status: Manholes lowered and milled, will pave week of 5/13 and raise structures.
Detour: None
Project Information: HMA Cold Milling and paving, structure Adjustments, Shoulder gravel, and roadside restoration.
Start Date: April 26, 2024
End Date: June 1, 2024

 

Road: Beatrice Drive - 9th Street to 610' east of 9th Street
Current Status: Manholes lowered and milled, will pave week of 5/13 and raise structures.
Detour: None
Project Information: HMA Cold Milling and paving, structure Adjustments, Shoulder gravel, and roadside restoration.
Start Date: April 26, 2024
End Date: June 1, 2024

Wakeshma Township

Road:  U Avenue - 42nd Street to 44th Street
Current Status: Begin to cut high shoulders, replace culverts, add gravel, and pulverize week of 5/13.
Detour: None
Project Information: Gravel, Pulverize, and Double Chip Seal 
Start Date: May 13, 2024
End Date: July 31, 2024

 

Road: W Avenue - 42nd Street to 44th Street
Current Status: Week of 5/13 pavement marking, signage and restoration to occur. Road will remain closed. 
Detour: W Avenue will be closed and detoured to traffic. The detour route is 42nd Street, R Avenue, 1/2 Mile Road, K Drive S, 2 Mile Road, O Drive S, and 1 1/2 Mile Road. 
Project Information: This project includes roadway crushing, shaping, resurfacing, shoulder widening, and drainage improvements. 
Start Date: April 1, 2024
End Date: August 2, 2024

County Wide Projects

Road: Crack Filling on various roads in Kalamazoo County
Current Status: Crack Fill will continue the week of 5/13/24 starting in Comstock Township and progressing counterclockwise throughout the county.
Detour: None
Project Information: Traffic to be maintained during project. This is a mobile operation, temporary traffic regulators may be necessary and slight delays are possible.
Start Date: April 22, 2024
End Date: November 30, 2024

 

Road: Hot Mix Asphalt Wedging on various roads in Kalamazoo County
Current Status: Wedging will continue the week of 5/20, north half is complete except for Alamo and will continue to work on south half.  
Detour: Traffic to be maintained during the project. Temporary traffic regulators may be necessary.
Project Information: Placing short stretches of asphalt pavement to bridge small areas of excessive cracking or to correct road slope
Start Date: April 15, 2024
End Date: June 30, 2024
