In an effort to keep local drivers informed of the latest traffic and road maintenance operations by the Road Commission, we have provided the following update. For further information call 269-381-3171 or visit RCKC website www.kalamazoocountyroads.com.

“This information is made available to assist motorists in planning for construction delays,” Travis Bartholomew, Managing Director of the Road Commission said. “Motorists are reminded to be alert, slow down, stay informed, and be cautious when approaching a work zone. Remember, these projects signify progress in improving our infrastructure!”

Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects, road closures and timing can change from day to day, depending upon a number of factors, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather conditions, emergency situations, etc.

Road: Comstock Avenue - Sprinkle Road to River Street
Current Status: Week of 7/6, work will include the removal and installation of storm sewer drainage structures throughout the project area. Existing storm sewer pipes will be cleaned, televised, and lined. Consumers Energy will also be on site wrapping up gas main replacement in coordination with the project. 
Detour: Comstock Avenue will be closed to through traffic and detoured using River Street, I-94 BL, and Sprinkle Road. 
Project Information: 0.85 miles of asphalt milling and resurfacing, concrete curb and gutter replacement, and storm sewer replacement.

Road: Drake Road - Grand Prairie to Squires Drive
Current Status: Milling is anticipated for July 9 and paving for July 11.
Detour: Drake Road will remain open to traffic. Motorists should expect delays when work is ongoing.
Project Information: 0.50 miles of asphalt milling and resurfacing.
Start Date: July 1, 2026

Road: 9th Street - KL Avenue to West Main Street
Current Status: Lowering manholes, curb/sidewalk removals, and placement the week of 7/6. A traffic shift will need to occur for this work. 
Detour: Lane closures are anticipated. No roadway closure or detour is anticipated. 
Project Information: 1.06 miles of asphalt milling and resurfacing with a sidewalk ramp.

Road: 9th Street - Stadium Drive to Quail Run
Current Status: Restoration and sign installation are planned for the week of 7/6.
Detour: Traffic control shall consist of a shoulder and lane closure with a lane shift on a 3-lane undivided roadway.
Project Information: Constructing a sidewalk along 9th Street. The project includes curbs, ramps, and drainage improvements.
